If you have ever wondered about your own family history, this story might be a familiar one.
Founder Joe Cannella always knew that his last name was the Italian word for 'cinnamon', but it was not until his first trip to Sicily in 2010 that he discovered that the orgins of the family name was in the ancient Mediterranean spice trade. "Cannella" was a trade name for spice merchants of the time, who dealt in all kinds of exotic flavors coming from the far east.
He made another important discovery on that trip - a bottle of "Rosolio di Cannella" (a floral cinnamon liqueur) on the shelf of his hotel bar, which quickly became the family after-dinner drink back home and inspired Joe's own recipe, which he launched in 2014 as Cannella Cinnamon Cordial. Since then he has released other Italian-inspired spirits like Amaro Cannella and Fernet Ferino, which you can enjoy as a flight at the distillery, or in a delicious cocktail at Ferino Distillery, the Cannella family's distillery located in the heart of Reno, Nevada's Brewery District.
